of phones to support. Consider what is available now as just a snapshot and look ahead at
the number of new phones that will come into the market, bearing in mind the average
market availability of a phone is less than two years. The number of handsets that need to be
supported soon multiplies up and that is before considering all the variants of firmware, etc.
Future-proof
The Swisscom wallet has been designed with the future in mind. By using Helixion’s lok-MPL
platform that the payment clients are based on, Tapit delivers a consistent experience
regardless of the handset it is running on. In addition, through Helixion’s supporting test and
conformance toolset, that experience can be quickly validated to ensure that new handsets
launched, work as reliably.
Through the agnostic way that services are handled in both the server and the client, it is easy
to add new and exciting services to Tapit in the future. Swisscom’s strategy of allowing service
providers to maintain ownership of the branding of their services, makes adding them into the
Tapit wallet an attractive proposition.
The end result is that Tapit will become an ever more comprehensive solution for the end user
whilst both Swisscom and service providers will benefit from a wider customer base and
increased loyalty.
As for Swisscom’s Tapit, the most exciting event in the
near future is the full commercial launch in 2014.
