In light of the recent news of one billion android devices being at risk of hacking, senior researcher Bernard Meyer from Cybernews.com stated: „Out of date software is one of the main threat vectors for owners of older devices. As the creator of Android, Google should step up and take the responsibility of extending the critical security support window for their operating system. With so many users at risk, it’s the responsible thing to do. With that said, responsibility for protecting users on its platforms is not something Google is known for, as evidenced by the company’s laissez-faire attitude towards unsafe apps on the Play store, which can rack up billions of downloads before they get taken down, if at all.”
