Apple has acquired UK-based visual effects specialist iKinema, reports the Financial Times. The British company develop ‘full body‘ motion capture software for movies and games. Financial terms were not disclosed, according to Telecompaper.
The iKinema technology can be used to convert footage of somebody’s physical movements into animated characters, with the acquisition a sign of Apple’s growing interest in 3D animation, according to Telecompaper. In a statement, Apple said that it acquired ‘smaller companies from time to time’. The takeover was first reported by Apple news site MacRumours.
